Adding Wainscoting Formalizes a Room
Adding wainscoting not only formalizes a living space, but also adds softness and depth to the wall surface, thereby creating the illusion
of a larger space, resulting in an elegant and highly formalized room that now appears larger.
There a many styles of wainscoting from which to choose. Most styles utilize either a one or two piece chair rail combined with raised or
recessed panels, or applied wall frames fabricated from decorative mouldings. The two most common variations of the applied wall
frame style are 'frames above and below the chair rail', and 'frames only below the chair rail'. When choosing the 'only below chair
rail' option, the chair rail, frames, wall and moulding below the chair rail are all painted white or off white oil based paint to
contrast the wall color used above the chair rail. The oil based paint gives the entire section the look of wood or furniture.
